BIOGRAPHY
Ronnie Rysz was born in Stamford, CT in 1982. He was educated at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, and at Lyme Academy College of Fine Art in CT, where he studied drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. During his college tenure, Ronnie served as assistant to both Master Printer James Reed of Milestone Graphics and to Mural Painter Randy Davis of Off the Wall Murals. After graduation, he completed a residency at the Vermont Studio Center. Ronnie has taught block printing, intaglio, and lithography at institutions such as Western Connecticut State University and the Center for Contemporary Printmaking. Now a Prosthetic Artist for Alternative Prosthetic Services, he travels across the continental U.S. creating custom cosmetic prosthetics for civilian and soldier alike. He continues to make art, and his work is featured in several public and private collections. Ronnie currently lives and works in New Haven, CT, and participates in solo and group exhibitions nationwide.
My work addresses the diminishing importance of physical communication between individuals. The micro-universes created by social networking and mobile devices spread a user's attention thin, but simultaneously inflate a user's ego by the large numbers of people he or she can instantly access. In this body of work there are no intimate relationships. Quality time is discarded in search of other stimuli, whether arbitrary internet information, a status posting, or shallow abbreviated text exchanges. The titles of each work reinforce the fact that social applications and new media slang serve as surrogates for personal interaction in contemporary communications.
